Introduction
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are released from the tissue in cancers, find their way into the circulation, and are then excreted in the urine. They can have distinctive cancer-related bio-signatures and this could lead to differentiation between normal and malignant tissues.
Unique capture system
SensAm has developed a solid phase microextraction and concentration tab that captures the VOCs as they evaporate from the urine sample.
The captured VOCs can then be desorbed from the tab and detected using an array of gas sensors.
Analysis
The data is analysed to produce a unique fingerprint for the mixture of volatiles. For each condition, this fingerprint is processed using neural network-based pattern recognition to distinguish between an abnormal and normal pattern. |
